Working with Fintan Connolly of TakeTen for the delivery of their mobile application for tablet project was an exciting opportunity for us to work with heart rate data using hardware solutions and implement an interactive method of stress management that is widely used in the education and healthcare sectors.

The Challenge

To build an app for tablet devices that interfaces with real-time pulse data from a third party hardware piece and allow users to play games, meditate and see their heart rate activity whilst recording the data for analysis later.

The Objectives

  • Create the SDK for the heart rate hardware
  • Implement a mechanism to allow game play
  • Create user profiles
  • Implement a licensing mechanism

The Solution

Working alongside a Belfast based agency we provided a technical team to design the mechanisms for play alongside interfacing with the hardware.

It was decided to use Ionic, a hybrid mobile app development framework at the core of this app to facilitate quick design iterations and allow HTML5 animations content to be used for games.

When completed this project was rolled out in schools across the UK and went on to win the Invent 2016 healthcare category award and was featured on the Stephen Nolan – “Made in Northern Ireland” programme.
